Honey butter toast needs three ingredients and 10 minutes in the oven. It comes out shatteringly crisp and smells of butter. It keeps well in a sealed box as a snack.
The tricky part is rolling the bread evenly thin. Roll both sides of the bread evenly, lengthwise and crosswise, before the honey butter is brushed on.
This batch weighs about 500g, at roughly 298 calories per 100g. Cut it into bite sized pieces once it is out of the oven. It stays crisp for a long time if kept somewhere dry.
Method
Add 70ml honey to 30g melted butter and stir with a spoon until the two combine.
Roll both sides of the bread evenly thin with a rolling pin, working lengthwise and crosswise, one loaf at a time until all 5 are done.
Brush the honey butter evenly over both sides of the bread.
Bake for 10 minutes at about 175 degrees C.
Take the bread out of the oven and cut it into bite sized pieces.
On the stove, keep the heat low and turn the bread often until crisp, then brush on the honey butter and toast it for a few minutes more. In an air fryer, cook for 7 minutes at 150 degrees C.
Tips
Bread rolled evenly thin takes up the honey butter faster and crisps all over.
Slightly stale bread rolls more easily than a fresh loaf.
Brush thinly, since a thick coat leaves that patch wet and slow to crisp.
Honey is still sugar, so keep the brushing light.
Let the bread cool completely before it goes into a sealed box, since warm bread turns soft.
